Based on the duration of existence insomnia is classified into three types namely transient insomnia that exists for a few days, acute insomnia that typically lasts for anywhere between three weeks to six months and chronic insomnia that happens regularly for longer periods.
One of the ways to tackle insomnia is to treat it with the use of medications like Ambien, Ambien CR, Lunesta and Rozerem which are commonly prescribed to people suffering from this sleep disorder.

Many of these medications carry the hype that they will help the person suffering from the condition to be able to have a normal sleep and waking cycle but actually does not have factual data to support it.
Products like Ambien and Lunesta have been observed to cause a high degree of psychological dependence than some of the other older products that are available to treat the condition. For this reason, people are now opting for other methods like cognitive behavior therapy to tackle the problem or are using medication like Rozerem as this has lesser chances of causing dependence or addiction and is now prescribed especially to people with a history of dependence to these medications.
Some people suffering from insomnia also try out other methods like use of chamomile tea or aromatherapy with lavender to help relieve stress and to get sleep. Many people also suffer from insomnia if the level of magnesium in the body falls below normal and supplementing it is methods to help get rid of the problem.
Pomegranate is very helpful in people suffering from insomnia as it helps in boosting immune levels as well as helping in maintaining good cardiovascular health which in turn helps in getting rid of the sleep disorder. A common advice insomniacs receive is to try and reduce levels of stress as far as possible as this is one of the major factors for insomnia. People with insomnia have also benefited from the use of Chinese medicine that is available to treat the problem. Roughly about 60 million people within the United States suffer from this problem and it is a major problem that affects the elderly age group. The problem is faced by about 30% of male population and 40% of female population as per available statistics with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Women are known to suffer more than men from this condition as they have to balance more number of responsibilities both at work as well as at home. Also, it is now more common where women are becoming single parents taking up additional responsibilities without having anybody to turn to for support.
